serenity now 0668 What we wear can change our mood. Certain colors make us feel energized and excited, while others make us feel relaxed. That knowledge can come in handy when you're dressing for important events.

Going on dates always makes me nervous, so I choose something in a lighter color, which always makes me feel calmer, or a shiny fabric. Something about a soft, shiny silk top always relaxes me.

This top always makes me feel cool and collected. No wonder Pantone called it Serenity.

This one is Alberta Ferretti (similar top with beading here). When I bought it, it was already vintage.

Serenity top from Phillip Lim, Club Monaco crop top, and a crisp, cotton tee Higher end top from Valentino and Bruno Cucinelli

A soft color like Serenity needs to be offset by some leather pants, or in this case, leather leggings by Alice + Olivia.

Faux leather leggings by Spanx, another faux pair by David Lerner. Real leather pants from Vince.

Jimmy Choo sandals -- similar here and here in a lower heel version.

I chose the silver hardware because it kind of mimics a metallic look.

These Jimmy Choos would be perfect for this look. Tom Ford sandals, and an easier to walk in version.

Accessories: Ferragamo clutch (similar here), Tiffany's earrings in smokey quartz, similar here. Rose bangle from Ippolita, Michael Kors bracelet, Rebecca Minkoff cuff, and Eddie Borgo wrap bracelet.

The Rose Quartz bracelet is another nod to Pantone's color of the year, since they chose two for 2016.
