wearing ruffles as an adult
February is here! This is usually the month I bust out all the dresses, because Valentine's Day. I especially like the girly stuff, like ruffles.
It's harder to make these types of dresses work just because they may seem childish if they're the wrong cut. I picked out some that work well.
My dress is Reformation (similar here). I like the similar dress even better because it's a perfect example of just the right amount of ruffles. On the sleeves, ruffles don't overwhelm the dress. It's important not to have too much details (for me anyway). That's what I like about my dress, the plain back gives it a hint of simplicity, and the front ruffle doesn't seem 'too much.'
I love this Derek Lam dress for its' subtle ruffle pattern. Again, it's not overwhelming, and doesn't look like a child's dress.
This Alexander McQueen dress is definitely more dramatic, with ruffle layers on the sleeves and bodice. It is more a work of art then a dress, in my opinion. A must have for fashion collectors.
On a more casual side, this Valentino dress is a great choice. I love these ruffle dresses for a date night, especially now that Valentine's Day is around the corner. They are perfect if you want to deviate from the LBD.
I just noticed that I'm not crazy about this jacket whenever I wear pants. The moto style is not so much my favourite, but I do feel it looks better paired with a dress, especially one with ruffles. The model is even wearing it like that in the Intermix ad!
I went with laceup sandals again to complete my look. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually happy cycling through a few pairs of my favourite shoes. It makes me feel less like a mindless consumer.
It's important to have one good pair of lace up sandals. This style is always coming back in, especially for spring. These Stuart Weitzman sandals are the perfect choice. This Aquazzura shoe is another option that is classic and timeless.
I know this dress might seem like a risk -- not only does it have ruffles, but it's also white. I think it's important to take risks with fashion and wear something out of your comfort zone. And plus, the dress is fully lined, so no excuse! ;)
