long blazers and short skirts
I once got in a screaming match with another fashion blogger about blazers (actually it was just me screaming at the computer). She was saying that long blazers are from the 80s and belong there. I was saying that long blazers have come back, and as long as the silhouette is modern, they look like they belong here.
I remember reading in The Sartorialist's book (Scott Schuman), that he thinks it's cool to see a girl wearing something short under a long jacket because it makes you question if she's wearing pants or not. I was really glad I had this Elizabeth and James blazer then (here it is in tan).
This jacket is my favorite. The angled button closure gives it a very modern feel, and I vehemently disagree that a long blazer is dated. I even dare say, it is extremely trendy. The Elizabeth and James Franco blazer is another one of my favorites. This one is great because it is more relaxed, and can double as a regular jacket, without needing to take it off indoors. Here is another in white, both on sale!
Long blazers are great with a mini because it gives a very clean, minimalist look to the outfit. It looks like it is just one piece. It also works with pants, just as any blazer would.
I paired mine with my Current/Elliot bandage skirt (here's a denim version). Modeled after this BCBG one, the bandage skirt is my go-to for a black mini. It's a great fit, and flattering to any "defects" you might think you have ;)
Also check out this skirt at a lower price point.
I cut the tag off my top, so I have no idea who makes it, but here's a similar spaghetti strap tank from Michelle Mason. I also absolutely love this Tibi top, it's a really great quality. And of course, this Versace tank. Honestly, at that price it's kind of a steal.
I like this look even without the jacket. It kind of looks like a spaghetti strap dress, and reminds me of something out of a Vince lookbook, you know how much I love him.
I wore my favorite Manolos with this look, but I also love these B.P. sandals from Nordstrom. They are almost identical, but for about 1/12th the price. Also, check out these if you like a higher heel.
For my jewelry I wanted to layer some simple necklaces, so I just wore a simple gold chain paired with a body chain. That way it kind of looks like this one (which is one piece). I also love the simplicity of this chain. My body chain is Vanessa Mooney, similar here as well.
I like pairing chains together, but the double layer chains take some of the guesswork out of it ;)
What do you guys think? Are long blazers still cool? I sure hope so!
Have a great weekend, ---xoxo---
