DETAILS and personal style

When trying to figure out your personal style, the trick is to first find what works for you, and build on that. For example: I cannot wear yellow, I have olive tint mediterranean skin, which clashes with all shades of yellow. But, I can wear head to toe black without looking like a goth (not criticizing Goths, it's just not my style). There was a girl in one of my classes in uni who loved my black hair, she wanted black hair but was too scared to try it. Once she did dye it, she realized she doesn't look quite right in it. That's because her skin tone and eye color didn't go well with it. Just goes to show, if someone looks good in something, doesn't mean it's right for everyone.

It took years to figure out my personal style. I used to buy everything in sight as long as it was on trend. I did end up with a very comprehensive wardrobe, but I also spent a ton of money on things I did not need.

My usual outfits consist of minimalist items and great fabrics. I have several silk tops, and skinny pants from gap, and I interchange them. Whenever I have fashion brain freeze, I don't have to look very far because these things are right there.

Another way I would describe my style is 'classic with a twist.' Just like this outfit, I wear simple things but with unique elements -- sequins, and lace up boots.

When I first started writing this I didn't have a real way of taking pictures -- meaning I didn't have a tripod :P so everything kind of looked a bit wonky. So i thought I'd use these pics as a way of showing details of an outfit.

The shorts are Haute Hippie (similar here, and they're on sale!), Halston Heritage top (here it is on a super sale! And a similar here; the entire collection of halston heritage at bloomingdales is pretty much how my closet looks)

You can't beat a good silk top; its a great addition to any wardrobe and will always be in style.

Antik Batik bangles (similar here; this was actually a set of three. They're great because you can wear one or two or all of them at once).

Tiffany's smoky quarts earrings (shown here in citrine, but I do believe they have them in different gemstones in the stores), House of Harlow feather ring (if it's sold out, keep checking because it constantly comes back, ).

Rebecca Minkoff bag (similar here). I highly recommend this designer. The prices are very fair, and her designs are always interesting, trendy, and go with everything. I had this bag for years and it has yet to show any wear. The leather is excellent quality.

Dolce Vita lace up booties (similar here, and you better scoop those up, they're 70% off!)

I love a good mid-calf boot. Although it doesn't seem like it, this style makes your legs look longer. And they are really in right now!
