Today's my birthday! Yay! I'm going to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for the Mariinsky ballet in this get-up.
It's a Marc Jacobs, and I like to call it the goddess dress even though I'm not sure its the official title. There's also a ghost on my hip, as you can see on the right. It didn't appear in the other photos.
I chose this for my birthday dress because I knew I would be doing something like going to the ballet or the theatre, and this is the perfect choice for something like that.
The tulip hem detail is always flattering on me, and the drape on the sides and front looks great as well. This dress is longer, but it has a similar drape effect. And this Ralph Lauren dress is another great long option.
However, I think the floor length is a little over the top for this event. And I found this great Alice + Olivia dress that is just perfect. It's black but my dress is a dark navy so it's almost impossible to tell the difference. If you're a fan of drape, check out this Michael Kors.
I also love this Noam Hanoch dress, the one shoulder detail is awesome, and it's on sale! That dress is more club attire, but I think it wold look really cool with the leather jacket the way I wore it.
I love matching the hard silhouette of the jacket with something very feminine like my birthday dress. This jacket is a great choice for fall (and winter). It's real leather and I wore it when I was in Boston in November, with a sweater underneath it kept me perfectly warm. This Madewell jacket is really similar, and what I like is that it doesn't look too 80s or too 'punk rock' style. Also check out this one in vegan leather.
For my shoes I went with Manolos again, but I also love these Louboutins! And at a lower price point I have to recommend these Ivana Trump shoes. They are so comfortable and go with everything, your birthday dress or a pair of jeans!
I kept it relatively simple with jewelry, I don't really like stacks of rings or bangles, so this simple selection will suffice.
It's midnight now, and while Andrei Makarevich serenades me with his birthday song, I have to say I am very pleased with the things I've done this year. I finally started this blog, got rid of some unhealthy behaviours, and took steps to move my life forward. As soon as I gave up on the notion that I need other people to make me happy, I saw my life open up tremendously. Now I can say I am genuinely happy, which has been my goal for my life for as long as I can remember. I look forward to this coming year, and all the possibilities it brings!
Hope you all have a great day!
