back in black
Every year, I make a plan for an awesome Labour Day weekend. Whether or not I stick with that plan is not important :P I try to plan different activities so I can get the most out of my wardrobe. Friday is usually filled with some evening outing: a concert, art gallery, etc. This year I will be venturing downtown (pray for me). Saturday is daytime shopping, coffee with my girls. Sunday or Monday is beach day, and maybe there's a barbecue party somewhere in between.
My Friday night outfit usually consists of all black, since summer hath ended, I am back in black.
I get a lot of compliments on this "dress" although it isn't one. It is a Helmut Lang skirt and a plain tank. I read an article regarding what is worth buying and what isn't, and one thing everyone agreed on was Helmut Lang skirts.
I wanted this skirt so bad, I bought it in large and had to take it in. That was before I discovered shopstyle, so here it is in all sizes. In order to make it fit, I had to turn it into a somewhat of a tulip skirt by taking in the waist. Here's a skirt that looks kind of like my creation.
The reason I love this skirt so much is because it is not a true slit. It's more like a cutout on the thigh. It makes the skirt look more like a mini skirt with a long tail. I feel like floor length skirts overwhelm me, and even ones with a slit still look huge on me.
The big cutout eliminates the problem of too much fabric. The only downside is you will have to shave your legs :P
Although this is a 'back in black' look I had to pair it with tan Manolos because it just seemed like too much black otherwise. Check out these Nordstrom ones, I recommend them a lot because they look identical, and the price is great!
I love how it looks from the back too. It's very statuesque; that makes me look taller, which I will gladly take any day :) .
I love Joie tops, and this simple spaghetti strap tank would be a great addition to this outfit, and your wardrobe in general.
As sad as I am that summer is over, I am glad to be back in black :) what can I say, it's my favorite color!
Happy Labour Day weekend!
