Love, Sex, And What To Wear

I used to be fearless. In my early to mid twenties I felt I could run into oncoming traffic and remain unhurt. (And I have, literally, and I did.)

Somewhere along the way I lost my nerve… I began jumping at shadows, afraid of everything at every turn.

I wished to turn my knowledge and love of fashion into something useful, but I didn’t know where to begin.

I never fit in. I tried to find my place in the world of fashion, tried wearing what was trendy, but it just didn’t look right. So I made my own place. I decided to wear what I want and not be bothered by what’s popular or what’s in style. That is how French women, the style icons of the world, live. Who cares if you don’t have the Proenza bag EVERYONE is carrying? You have something much greater: a solid foundation to build your personal style.

Fashion is about showing who we are.

Trendy – (tren-de) adj. currently popular or fashionable.
‘Trendy’ is something so fleeting and temporary. Style is much more pertinent, and permanent. With our personal style we can say so much about ourselves and our lives. It should never be taken for granted.

It is beauty. It is art.

The title?

I’m such a romantic that I feel like everything in my life can be attributed to one of three categories: love, sex, and what to wear. And sometimes all three (more on that later).

I saw that once on a Vogue cover and thought, “well, there’s everything I need!” I even had it pinned to my fashion board for a while. What a perfect sentence to get anyone to open your magazine (or blog)!!

I wear my clothes more than once, I make new things out of old clothes I don’t wear anymore. I realize that’s not ideal for a “fashion blogger,” but I hope you will look around and realize this little blog has something for everyone.

  1. Dasha,
Hello there. I currently follow you on Instragram and have just begun following your blog. If you feel comfortable, I was hoping you would share who cuts your hair. I live in Sherman Oaks and have been wanting a pixie cut for quite a while but keep delaying because I haven’t found a stylist I trust to be consistently good. In all your photos, your hair is always beautiful and cut perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing your fashion on instagram and your blog (and your hair stylist). Elizabeth

    1. Hi! Thanks for writing! I first got my hair cut two years ago by Lindsey at Modem Salon in Silverlake (http://www.modemsalon.com/about.html) I went to her when I had long hair too, and she’s really excellent at getting my hair just right! Now if I need a trim, I just go to Modelcuts on Ventura and Tujunga, in Studio City. For the first cut, I’d definitely recommend Lindsey, she’s a bit pricey, but totally worth it. And if you want to keep it short, getting trims is no problem, since the cut itself isn’t too complex. Good luck, and I can’t wait to see it!
